Performance Task Guide

Amount of Time to Complete:
10 to 20 hours

Task Description:
(include whole class, group and individual work as appropriate)

Students will make an accordion-style book with decorated cover. The book will be illustrated with cut-out printed papers. Textures and colors on printed papers will be used to stimulate ideas for writing. The goal is to create beautiful, rhythmic picture books that successfully integrate words and images.

Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills:
To successfully perform this task students will need preliminary:

  • Knowledge of color mixing
  • Knowledge of decorating painted paper
  • Knowledge of imaginative writing (non-rhyming poetry)
  • Knowledge or relationship of words and images

    large drawing paper
    black India ink or tempera paint
Paste Papers Activity
    flour
    glycerine
    green soap (or dish soap)
    tempera paint (3 colors)
    medium (8 1/2 x 11) bond paper
    mixing containers
    plastic covers
    sponges
    brushes
    variety of simple tools to create designs
Accordion Book Activity
    heavy paper

    glue
