About the Oregon Content Standards
Background
The Oregon Educational Act for the 21st Century sets standards for students to prepare them for the challenges they will face after high school. The goal is to have classroom curriculum, instruction, and assessment work together to help students achieve the expected results. Since the act passed in 1991, teams of teachers and other experts regularly refine the content standards and streamline the material and systems used for statewide assessment. These changes are reflective of the needs of students and the capacity of schools- understanding built on test findings and frank and vigorous feedback from educators at all levels.
