The OPEN team is committed to bringing a high level of Web-site usability to K-12 educators throughout Oregon. That's why the team undertook two major site-assessment steps this past spring. First, we asked users to provide site feedback. Then--using WebTrends, a software application for Web-site traffic analysis--we collected and analyzed data from server log files.

Data from both user feedback and WebTrends told the team that OPEN's Web-site content remains useful and timely, but it also highlighted the need to restructure site navigation. Taking our lead from Jacob Nielsen, the "guru" of Web-site usability (http://www.useit.com), the team initiated a redesign process.
