Governor John Kitzhaber and Superintendent of Public Instruction Norma Paulus will present Super Site awards to three winners of this year's Master WEBster Competition. The May 15 presentation is open to the public; it will take place at 11:30 AM in the governor's ceremonial office in Salem. The Master WEBster competition provides financial rewards for effective and innovative, student-developed, Internet-based learning projects, and offers a means to share the projects state-wide.
This year, seventy-two projects are competing for Master WEBster awards totaling $57,000. Award winners will be selected through a month-long peer review, to be completed by April 30. Winning projects will be categorized as Super Site (3 total; $3,000 each), Hot Link (24 total; $1,500 each), and Sizzler (48 total; $250 each).
Peer review is an important and fun part of each year's Master WEBster competition. Teams of teachers and students gather at sites across the state; each team evaluates three to five projects, with each project receiving at least two independent evaluations. Once again, special thanks go out to Crook-Deschutes, Lane, Multnomah, and Yamhill ESDs for hosting the peer review sites.
A complete summary of 1998 Master WEBster entrants - by county, grade level, and zone is available on the OPEN Website. Be sure to check the OPEN site's Master WEBster Competition section at the end of May for links to all of the winning projects.
